Firm History

Mason Warner & Company was founded in 1962 when Jimmie Mason left a local accounting firm and started his own accounting practice. In 1963 he moved to offices at 1708 15^th street. The firm started by Jimmie continued to expand at this location. In 1964, J. Reid Warner joined our firm as a staff member. Reid became a partner in 1968. Jimmie Mason retired in 2000 and Reid Warner retired in January of 2007.

MWC continued to grow and expand from primarily tax preparation to a full range of accounting services. In 1973 our firm outgrew its location on 15^th street and moved to the newly constructed Tower of the Plains Building at 50^th and University. This was to be the location of our firm for the next eighteen years. We occupied a small portion of the fourth floor when we first moved to the PNB building. Within a few years the firm had grown to the point where we occupied the entire fourth floor.

During the period of time our firm spent in the Tower of the Plains there were many events that increased the expertise and stability of our firm.

From 1978 through 1981 our firm employed five new staff accountants, Mark Dickson, Greg Freeman, Pat Harris, Gary Lane, and Greg Moore. Pat Harris retired in May of 2004. The other four accountants remain with MWC as Shareholders.

In 1991 our firm made a decision to move from the Tower of the Plains to another building that we purchased, located at 5202 Indiana. During the years we have been located at our present location we have added *financial services to our list of services. Currently four owners and additionally Pat Harris are registered to sell securities through *Jefferson Pilot Securities Corporation. Additionally, two of our owners are licensed to sell insurance. This rapidly growing portion of our practice allows us the opportunity to give financial advice to our clients and then assist them in the implementation of their financial plan.

We opened an accounting office in Post, Texas. Terri Cash manages this office. Terri has been with our firm for over twenty years.

Over the forty-five years of the history of our firm we have had many employees and staff accountants that have contributed to our growth. Several CPA’s formerly associated with our firm now have accounting practices of their own. Many of our past employees continue to keep in touch. We are proud of the individuals that have been associated with our firm in the past. We are even more proud of our current staff. We have nine individuals who have been with our firm over fifteen years and many of our other employees have been with our firm for long periods of time. We believe that our current mix of owners and staff is the strongest in the history of our firm. We celebrated recently with Tait Crow as he passed his CPA exam and became our newest CPA.

MWC was pleased to announce the promotion of Barbara Gilliam into the Firm as a shareholder, effective January 1, 2004. Barbara represents the next generation of owners that will continue to lead MWC into the future.
